The Theater Offensive and Hibernian Hall are proud to present Fierce Love: Stories from Black Gay Life , a show that examines the vital issues of race, sexuality, and identity as a whole. The performance, starring its writer and producer, Brian Freeman, and Nursha Project Artist Thandiwe DeShazor, is a remix of the original production with a new group of talented performers. The newly-revived Bessie Award winning troupe uses raucous humor and fearless storytelling to challenge racism and homophobia through a series of vignettes that will leave audiences feeling the pain, pleasure and paradox of Black gay life.

Pomo Afro Homos is a ground-breaking Black queer performance troupe from San Francisco that blends comedy, tragedy, dance, music and rap in this phenomenal presentation.

With support from the National Performance Network , The Theater Offensive led the Fierce Love commissioning team with collaborators from Los Angeles, Washington DC, Burlington, New Orleans and Dallas. The Theater Offensive’s OUT in Your Neighborhood strategy is a driving force behind Fierce Love, focusing on integrating queer theater into interactive community-based programs in Boston-area neighborhoods.

The Theater Offensive’s ongoing Shout it OUT! collaboration with Hispanic Black Gay Coalition (HBGC Boston) will open Fierce Love’s Saturday matinee. Shout it OUT! will be a staged reading of original coming out stories from LGBT people of color. This work was developed in two workshop series with The Theater Offensive staff and Brian Freeman, in which community members learned to stage their writings for a broader audience.

For the first time, The Songmaster BGL Cruise will present its guests with an evening of enchanting live theatre! “Armstrong’s Kid”, featuring NPA Thandiwe De Shazor, is a riveting piece written by  three time NAACP Theatre Award and NAACP Image Award-winning novelist, playwright, filmmaker, journalist and actor Stanley Bennett Clay. The play stars a gay schoolteacher (Clay) who is falsely accused of child molestation by his best friend’s fourteen-year-old son and spends nearly a year in prison before the truth is revealed.

Eleven years later, the now-grown accuser (co-star Thandiwe Thomas De Shazor) goes to the cabin retreat of the falsely accused to seek forgiveness. What follows is a blistering showdown, ripe with bitter confrontations, shocking revelations, vicious humor, hidden desires, and bitter truths exposed.

Just missed milDRED at the Houston Transgender Unity Banquet!

DRED delivered the keynote address at the annual banquet at the Sheraton Brookhollow in Houston, Texas.

This enchanted evening was a celebration of the Trans community in Houston. The Unity Banquet is organized by the Houston Transgender Unity Committee, the consortium of area transgender organizations. Proceeds from ticket sales support the Peggy Rudd Transgender Scholarship Fund . This was the fifth year that the Unity Committee presented scholarships that were established to help trans-identified students pursuing higher education and named in honor of advocate and educator Dr. Peggy Rudd.

Nursha Project Artist Thandiwe de Shazor is making an appearance at the National Performance Network’s 25th year anniversary celebration in Dallas, Texas. Thandiwe is featured in Pomo Afro Homo’s acclaimed Fierce Love : Stories from Black Gay Life .

Fierce Love: Stories from Black Gay Life by Pomo Afro Homos (San Francisco) is a jazzy mix of wicked humor and personal narratives exploring the pleasures, pains and complexity of African-American gay life in the U.S. The published scripts of the Pomos are regularly taught in African-American, LGBT, and American theatre history classes in colleges across the U.S., Canada, and Europe.

Recently, NPA Thandiwe Thomas de Shazor was featured in the Oakland Local for his pro-activism within the Queer Community. Oakland Local contributor and author of the article, Tehea Robie notes, “In him, I see a sense of purpose, the art we have yet to express, the fantasies we’re forced to suppress, the release of the rawest and realest gay divinity and the lives we have yet to save.”

We welcome our newest addition, Mia Marcus: Photographer, to the Nursha Family!

Born and raised in New York City, Mia Marcus’ early interest in photography was inspired by the NYC music scene. Starting out as an avid fan of Hip-Hop music, Mia was able to transfer that passion through her photography.

After graduating from the University of Rhode Island she began to take her interest in photography to the next level by shooting various concerts, music videos and parties in NYC. She has photographed many artists including Fabolous, Jim Jones, Q-tip, 50 cent and many others.  Still in the early stages of her career in photography, she has been blessed to work with the likes of celebrity photographer, Johnny Nunez. Her ambition to become one of the top female photographers in her field has driven accomplishments such as being featured in the Source Magazine, GO! Magazine and working as a contributing photographer at HOT 97.1.

Mia is constantly working hard  to conceive her d ynamic style in photography . Her focus and passion drive her creativity.  You can catch Mia backstage, on-stage or in crowd shooting at any live concert in NYC.

Nursha Project Artist Red Summer is currently shooting for the Atlanta spin-off of  Lovers And Friends , a  lesbian web based series. Two years in the running, Lovers And Friends has become one of the most popular LGBTQ web series online. The series portrays the life experiences of a group of ethnically diverse lesbians and their families, friends and lovers. It started in South Beach and is moving it’s next season to the ladies of Atlanta.
