The Theater Offensive and Hibernian Hall are proud to present Fierce Love: Stories from Black Gay Life , a show that examines the vital issues of race, sexuality, and identity as a whole. The performance, starring its writer and producer, Brian Freeman, and Nursha Project Artist Thandiwe DeShazor, is a remix of the original production with a new group of talented performers. The newly-revived Bessie Award winning troupe uses raucous humor and fearless storytelling to challenge racism and homophobia through a series of vignettes that will leave audiences feeling the pain, pleasure and paradox of Black gay life.

Pomo Afro Homos is a ground-breaking Black queer performance troupe from San Francisco that blends comedy, tragedy, dance, music and rap in this phenomenal presentation.

With support from the National Performance Network , The Theater Offensive led the Fierce Love commissioning team with collaborators from Los Angeles, Washington DC, Burlington, New Orleans and Dallas. The Theater Offensive’s OUT in Your Neighborhood strategy is a driving force behind Fierce Love, focusing on integrating queer theater into interactive community-based programs in Boston-area neighborhoods.

The Theater Offensive’s ongoing Shout it OUT! collaboration with Hispanic Black Gay Coalition (HBGC Boston) will open Fierce Love’s Saturday matinee. Shout it OUT! will be a staged reading of original coming out stories from LGBT people of color. This work was developed in two workshop series with The Theater Offensive staff and Brian Freeman, in which community members learned to stage their writings for a broader audience.

“Where My Girls At?” returns home to Oakland, California to celebrate its 5th Anniversary!

“Where My Girls At?” is a “thoughtful, provocative, and insanely funny” one woman show written and performed by the “multi-talented” Micia Mosely. Portraying five drastically different characters representing the diversity of Black lesbian experiences, Micia challenges the notion that there is only one way to be Black or queer in the 21st century.

A phenomenal one hour performance steeped in improv and audience participation,  Where My Girls At? has thrilled audiences across the country from San Francisco, Detroit and New York to Amherst, Chapel Hill and Honolulu. A  New York Innovative Theater Award Nominee, the show, while hilarious, continues to tackle difficult issues including inter and intra-group racism, sexism, and homophobia.

Maria Bauman (MBDance) creates duets and small group dances from a sense of physical and emotional power, a desire for equity, and a fascination with intimacy and relationships. She frequently employs both linear and circular narrative, in addition to other devices, as means of drawing in the viewer to tackle issues such as racialized police brutality or love between women. Bauman’s extensive study of capoeira also informs her choreography.
