” It ain’t easy comin’ up Black not to mention female, in these so-called United States. ”
Courtney Dowe, Li’l T., and Chiquita Brooks will be your guides into the collective subconscious of Black Girls trying to hold fast to self-love. Black Girl Ugly will expose the “truth” of white girl beauty and the reality of Black Girl Ugly through moment, poetry, and song. The end result: a cultivation of a healthy self-image for young and old black women surrounded by the superficial din of white media.
Ashley Brockington, along with Black Grrrlz R Dee-Licious Productions, presents the third installment of Black Girl Ugly. www.offoffonline.com called 2009’s Black Girl Ugly, “ …touching, amusing and ultimately thought provoking… ”. Ashley is a member of the WOW café theatre collective that is celebrating its 30th year. Join us in another creative opportunity to make a positive impact in our communities.
